Finding an HVAC Contractor in Destin

It doesn’t matter what part of the country you’re in, staying warm during the winter and cool during the summer is imperative. An HVAC contractor is an important part of your seasonal indoor comfort. HVAC stands for heating, ventilating, and air conditioning. An HVAC contractor is responsible for the installation and maintenance of heating, cooling, and ventilation systems in homes and buildings. Choosing the right Destin HVAC contractor to install a new system or inspect or upgrade an existing one can be as important to the systems operation as purchasing the right equipment.

Choosing a reliable Destin HVAC contractor should be a simple process. The problem is that many people have no idea what to look for in a competent contractor to take care of their heating and cooling needs and that can make the search difficult. Whether you need repairs or a new heating or air conditioning system installed, its important to find an HVAC contractor you can trust to provide quality work and reliable service.

The Importance of Finding the Right Destin HVAC Contractor

If you’re looking for a new installation or upgrade of an older system, a qualified Destin HVAC contractor needs to make a visual inspection of the site or existing system. If any contractor attempts to give you an estimate over the phone without first checking out your project or investigating a problem in person you should avoid doing business with them. They may be less interested in getting the job done right than they are in getting your money.

An HVAC contractor will calculate he square footage of your structure, and go through a thorough checklist to determine the heat-load. He can then provide you with a written quote outlining the cost of parts, equipment and labor. If you need a new system, a qualified Destin HVAC contractor can often provide you with a selection of systems to suit your situation. Most companies will also offer you a financing plan along with an extended warranty.

If you’ve been having problems with your existing heating and cooling system a Destin HVAC contractor should ask for details and following a thorough examination should then provide you with viable solutions. Often it’s a matter of an existing unit not properly sized for the structure and a qualified Destin HVAC contractor can recommend new or additional equipment that will meet your home or business needs. Over time you may find that the proper size system will be more energy efficient and therefore more cost effective.

What to Look for in a Qualified Destin HVAC Contractor

Don’t feel embarrassed to ask for references when looking for the right Destin HVAC contractor. Maybe someone you know has had experience with an HVAC contractor so ask around. Check with the Better Business Bureau to see if the individual contractor or company has had any complaints filed and if these complaints were resolved. It’s important to remember that many Destin HVAC companies take on hundreds of projects and jobs a year so if they only have a complaint or two they may still be considered as very reputable. Of course an ongoing history of consumer complaints against any HVAC contractor obviously represents a problem.

Make certain that any contractor you are considering is licensed, insured and bonded. A Destin HVAC contractor is required to take specific tests to ensure they have the necessary skills before they can receive a license. It’s also imperative that they carry the proper insurance including workers compensation and that they are bonded to protect you against damages to your home.

Check to see that any Destin HVAC contractor you consider has a listed business address and telephone number. Contractors that have a physical office or shop are probably more likely to be an established business. Any reliable company is usually willing to give you their address, phone number and alternate numbers for emergency services. If the contractor doesn’t have a physical business address or adequate contact information you have no way of being sure they will be around should you need to have under warranty repairs done on the equipment.

Find out what type of equipment a Destin HVAC contractor uses to test your heating system and how they detect potential levels of carbon monoxide to verify the safety of your home or business. What methods do they use to properly handle refrigerants and make certain they don’t pollute the air? Any HVAC contractor that handles refrigerants should possess an EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) license.

Protecting your Investment with a Reliable Destin HVAC Contractor

You don’t need to accept the first bid that you receive. You should talk with several HVAC contractors to get a number of quotes that you can compare. If you have doubts about any company continue your search until you find one that meets your needs and that you feel comfortable working with. Don’t simply accept the lowest bid because it seems like the cheapest offer. Ask the contractor to explain how he arrived at his estimate. Don’t cut corners when it comes to equipment and installation, yet look for the bid that will give you the best deal for your money.

When it comes time to install, upgrade or repair your heating, ventilation and air conditioning system you want to choose a qualified Destin HVAC contractor. A qualified contractor will behave in a professional manner. They will be on time for appointments, or if they have an emergency they will call to let you know. Their offices and trucks should represent the level of their business.

Remember that you don’t want the cheapest bid. You want the best bid and that’s one where you will get quality equipment and service at the best price. The heating and air conditioning equipment in your home or business is a long term investment and you want to make certain the Destin HVAC contractor you choose will be there to help protect that investment.

Buying a New Home Comfort System

If you're like most people, your home is your biggest investment. And a new home comfort system is a big investment in your home! So we offer the following information to help you with your buying decision.

How a Heat Pump Works

how heat pumps work

The Heat Pump Total Comfort system provides complete comfort. In the summer, it circulates cool air throughout the home while absorbing hot air and releasing it outside. In the winter, the heat pump simply reverses the process. You may be surprised to learn that there is heat in the air on even the coldest days. The heat pump system absorbs this heat from the outdoor air, raises it to a higher temperature, and then circulates it throughout your home.

Because the heat pump system heats in cold weather and cools in hot weather, it carries two energy-efficient ratings.

Cooling efficiency is rated by a "Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio," also known as "SEER". The higher the SEER rating are, the more efficient the system. Heating efficiencies are expressed by the "Heating Seasonal Performance Factor," or "HSPF." Like SEER, the more efficient the system, the higher the HSPF rating.

Indoor Air Quality (IAQ)

The Environmental Protection Agency ranks poor indoor air quality among the top five environmental risks to public health (American Lung Association). The moist environment inside your air handling unit can be an ideal breeding ground for biological contaminants and micro-organisms that can then be distributed throughout your home.

Many Florida homeowners are not aware of the health risks associated with mold, bacteria, and viruses that can be living inside of your heating and cooling system. The EPA states that levels of air pollution inside the home can be two to five times higher, and occasionally 100 times higher, than outdoor levels. In addition, research shows that people spend about 90% of their time indoors. With these facts, it is important for everyone to understand how important it is to protect their health, as well as the health of their family by improving the quality of the air they are breathing.

Refrigeration

We at Coastal Cooling & Heating, LLC offer services for repair, replacement, and maintenance for all your refrigeration needs.

The type of work would be walk-in-coolers, freezers, ice machines, roof top units, split condensing systems, and any type of small cooler you can think of. Just give us a call and we can discuss your needs.

Did You Know...

  • 1 out of 6 people who suffer from allergies do so because of the direct relationship to fungi and bacteria in air duct systems. (Health Magazine)
  • Health effects from indoor air pollutants may be experienced years after exposure. (EPA)
  • 50% of all illnesses are either caused by, or aggravated by, polluted indoor air. (American College of Allergists)

There are many ways to improve the quality of indoor air including UV Air Sanitizers, Electrostatic Filters, Electronic Filters, and Air Purification Systems. These products are not only proven to capture and eliminate house dust, mold, mildew, fugues, pollen, bacteria, and viruses; but a cleaner system means more efficiency and more savings on your electricity bill. With a list of benefits like these, there's no reason not to invest in cleaner air for your family:

  • Breathe easier, reducing allergy and asthma symptoms
  • Improved sleep patterns
  • No more household odors
  • Reduces operating costs and extends the life of your system
  • Enjoy a sense of overall well-being!
